I went to see Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa at the Colston Hall in Bristol last night. It’s the second time I have been to see Dweezil and his superlative band of musicians.
They played the entire Apostrophe’ album start to finish and loads of other classic Zappa tunes. The Apostrophe’ track itself was an awesome wall of sound, note perfect and amazing to see.One of the final encore tracks, “Muffin Man“, blew the house apart. Colston is a great venue and the sound was fantastic. And believe me, these folks can bang out some sounds! The fully packed out hall were totally up for it and everyone was up and dancing towards the end of the show.
They also used exclusive footage of the man himself on a huge screen behind the stage at key points in the show. This added hugely to the overall experience.
Myself and a friend managed to have a quick chat with Dweezil after the gig and he was such a nice guy and was happy to chat for a good few minutes to all the queueing fans.
Tonight’s gig in Brighton is the last in this country so to all those going have a great time!
He’s coming back to Bristol next year so if you fancy a musical treat for the ears this will not disappoint. I will be there!
10/10.

I just heard a fabulous interview on the BBC with Dweezil. Such a common-sense guy, like his dad.
VERY COOL that you got to hear all of Apostrophe (I heard Frank do most if it in Memphis in 1980).
I got turned on to Frank in 1974, the day that record was released, Saw him a little later for the first time, in Mobile, Alabama,
Cheers from Mississippi!

Complete agree Luke, the ZPZ gig is guaranteed to be awesome start to finish.
Can’t wait till next year now. Hopefully they will play Cardiff!
